Cherry Chewbites

Crust
1 Cup walnut pieces - divided in 2
1¼ Cups all purpose flour
½ Cup firmly packed brown sugar
½ Cup Butter Flavor Crisco
½ Cup flake coconut

Filling
2 Pkgs (8 oz each) cream cheese - softened
Cup sugar
2 Eggs
2 Tsp. vanilla
1 Can (21 oz) cherry pie filling

Preheat oven to 350°. Grease 13x9x2" pan with Butter Crisco and set aside.

Chop ½ cup nuts coarsely for topping and set aside. Chop the rest of the nuts finely.

For Crust:
Combine flour and brown sugar. Cut in Butter Crisco until fine crumbs form. Add ½ cup finely chopped nuts and coconut. Mix well.

Remove ½ cup of crumbs and set aside. Press remaining crumbs into bottom of pan. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until edges are lightly browned.

For Filling:
Beat cream cheese, sugar, eggs and vanilla in small bowl at medium speed till smooth. Spread over hot baked crust.

Return to oven and bake 15 minutes longer or till set.

Spread cherry pie filling over cheese layer.

Combine reserved chopped nuts and reserved crumbs. Sprinkle evenly over cherries.

Return to oven and bake for 15 minutes. Chill for several hours. Cut into bars.
